‘Music is the language of God. God’s language, music, is not like mathematics or geometry. It is a language of love. If we love music, that is enough.’
– Sri Chinmoy
Music as Meditation – Music is Meditation
Sri Chinmoy’s music embodies another aspect of his spiritual message.
Starting with mantras, chants and bhajans seekers who come to the Kirtan sessions will learn to sing and perform Sri Chinmoy’s songs (in English, Bengali and Sanskrit).
Singing devotional songs, like practising meditation, has a cumulative spiritual effect. Whereas meditating for an hour can be a difficult and daunting task, singing for an hour can be a joyful and uplifting experience.
-Strengthen your determination by singing, ‘Aum Aparajitaya Nama.’
-Become more peaceful by singing, ‘Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu’
-Express harmony with nature by singing, ‘How sweet is the Breath of the Flower’ and ‘Beauty Came to Me.’
Use the sessions to build up a repertoire of inspiring spiritual songs.
Scores can be downloaded from this website .
However, the music will be available at the Kirtan sessions. Acoustic musicians are also invited to play and sing – but everyone must sing.
Soft drinks and Prasad (spiritual tapas) will be provided at the end of each session
All types and standards of singers are welcome, contact us to find out times and dates of the Kirtan sessions, or to find out more about them.
‘Music knows no frontiers
It is free all-where
Its contribution to emotional integration
Can never be fathomed.’
– Sri Chinmoy
Music and mantra is a most easy and effective way to experience meditation. The video below is an example of the kind of mantras we use in the Sri Chinmoy Centre. Download the words below, press play and sing along. It’s as easy as that!
Can spiritual music be played during meditation?
“Certainly, although it depends on the one who meditates. There are many seekers on earth who meditate extremely well, but who have not developed their musical sense. Their ears have not been trained, so we cannot expect them to change their nature overnight. They either lack the capacity of appreciation or they have some austere feeling about music. Psychic music is not very widely appreciated, and very few people appreciate the soul’s music. They feel it is like a stranger that is entering into their consciousness. But it is actually their eternal tenant, their soul, that is deep within them waiting to come to the fore.
If divine music is played during deep meditation, it enhances the meditation. It will immediately help in elevating the consciousness. If you are fond of music, then playing soulful songs or chants during your meditations at home will definitely help you.”
